A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miamiâs Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,â declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
âExcept perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,â she went on. âI hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.â
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting âsix-sevenâ â deriving from a rap song lyric â often without clear purpose. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named âsix-sevenâ its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary âfar from charcoal and roasting pansâ, according to the eventâs official press release.
âThe pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,â said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
âIt captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.â
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Sevenâs big moment.
