Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their first World Series after the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the series. They will now face the Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm just so happy for this squad, Toronto, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."
Springer has now slugged twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the sole team never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
