Eric Adams Plans to Back Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayor's Election

New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed his decision to endorse Andrew Cuomo in the forthcoming election for mayor, despite months of public tension between the pair of Democrats.

An Unexpected Turnaround After Recent Criticism

Just last month, the mayor had strongly criticized the former governor, calling him a ā€œsnake and a liarā€ and alleging of having ā€œa career of marginalizing Black political contenders.ā€ Yet, in a new development, Adams changed his position, revealing he now intends to campaign alongside Cuomo in areas where he maintains strong support.

ā€œIt is crucial to mobilize the Black and brown communities that have been affected by gentrification on how critical this election is,ā€ Adams commented.

He added, ā€œResidents have seen their housing costs rise in terms of gentrification and they have been disregarded in those neighborhoods, and I’m going to go to those communities and talk directly with community leaders and organizations and I will appear with the former governor in those areas and get them motivated.ā€

Race Dynamics and Recent Events

The election battle has so far been shaped by the competition between Cuomo and democratic socialist his main rival, whose rise in the polls has made headlines globally and represented hopes for a revitalized leftwing of the Democrats.

During a latest mayoral debate, both Mamdani and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa declared they would refuse the mayor's support if offered.

Earlier this year, Adams had launched his re-election campaign as an independent after facing legal accusations which were later thrown out in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across the city.

At an unrelated press conference on Thursday, the mayor responded to journalists inquiring into the endorsement plan by saying, ā€œI’ll be with Andrew this evening.ā€

This development came a day after the two politicians were spotted sitting courtside together at the the NBA team's first game at the famous arena, which occurred immediately following a contentious mayoral debate.
