Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Legal authorities have announced that a ex- physician has been charged with performing assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.
The Serious Allegations
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous sexual offences – comprising some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into alleged assaults at two hospitals: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences include:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
