Her Royal Highness's Yearly Festive Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," wrote Catherine in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be people from various age groups.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
