Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
