The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Brutally Tactical TTRPG
The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division is being translated into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a TTRPG set within the series' apocalyptic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.
"This endeavor will bring the series' unique suspense, tactical intensity, and memorable setting to the tabletop, providing fans a new way to experience The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Initial offerings will include a beginner's box, essential manuals, a Game Master screen, miniatures, and various deluxe editions.
Exploring The Division's Apocalyptic World
In this universe, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was released in NYC, plunging the United States into chaos. As the crisis escalates, society crumbles and violent factions emerge, transforming the city into a battlefield. To preserve order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. This is where the agents come in.
Development on the RPG has been in progress for approximately three years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The upcoming crowdfunding effort will serve as a preorder system to access a broader market, particularly in the United States. Manufacturing will start right after the fundraiser, with deliveries expected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Gameplay Mechanic: The GRIS System
A preview at the game's rules reveals it uses d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, promoting a streamlined and tactical approach. Players leverage abilities to roll small dice pools, usually from one to five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, players choose a single “result die” from the group.
- This dice is then measured against a set challenge number.
- Rolling a natural 10 grants additional bonuses, such as increased harm or enhanced aid.
Engagements Emphasize Positioning and Situational Insight
Fights prioritize placement and environmental awareness, mirroring the source material. Factors like taking cover, elevation, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This mechanic seems built to favor teamwork and smart positioning over raw numbers.
A Thematic Health System
The way health is managed introduces a compelling thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an operative collapses, but is not unconscious.
- They can still crawl and perform restricted acts, simulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
- Any agent knocked down must consult a trauma table, risking lingering conditions like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.
An Introductory Scenario
A publicly available introductory rulebook is promised in the near future. It contains a pre-made introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this scenario, players lead the search for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an assault by the violent Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup are expected to be unveiled near the campaign launch.
