Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
