A former US state department official, Dan Fried, commented, "Putin is trying to derail the momentum toward greater sanctions on Russia." He added, "The outcome will become clear tomorrow, but the likelihood of moving toward a ceasefire by pressuring Russia to engage sincerely seem to have diminished."

The situation followed the US president had in recent days been strengthening his language toward Russia until the recent call with Putin, which the Kremlin characterized as "extremely frank and constructive."

European Fuel Restrictions and Market Effects

The European Union have set a requirement for fuel suppliers into the European Union to prove their products are not sourced from Russian oil, according to a official guideline published on Thursday. This step is included in the European Union's forthcoming ban on purchases of refined products processed from Russian petroleum, which is included in its latest restrictive measures against Moscow over its war in the region.

Financial experts noted that investment activity appeared to be factoring in the possible end of India's purchases of Russian crude. Several oil processors in India are getting ready to reduce Russian oil imports, with expectations of a gradual decrease, as reported by insiders familiar with the matter.

"This is a positive development for the crude oil price as it would remove a major buyer of Russian crude," said a market analyst, adding that crude values were stable on Thursday.

A massive Moscow's drone and missile attack targeted gas facilities in Ukraine's eastern regions on Thursday, causing disruptions in eight regions. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russia launched hundreds of unmanned vehicles and many of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.
